Silent Pool Gin Garden 2019 - RHS Chelsea Flower Show - Silver Gilt medal
The urban, industrial style of this garden was combined with up-and-coming plant technology to create a unique and sustainable outdoor space. The garden tantalised the five senses, creating a restful, sensory place to relax. Botanics from the gin were incorporated into the planting, the sound of the water and the bird song (anti-sound) masked nearby urban noise, and the divine smell of the roses were a delight to the nose.
A collaboration with Surrey University allowed the garden to demonstrate new technologies within horticulture. Energy was generated by using waste matter from the living plants. The electricity produced powered the anti-sound to illustrate the technology's presence in the garden. This element of the garden also highlighted the current development of cutting-edge renewable energy technology, but was also designed to make people think about the potential of currently wasted spaces; in particular, the many bare rooftops across the country.
